If the publishing setting is segmented, each activity gets segmented into the XML file of its recipient country or region. In segmented files, a user can include multiple files according to their countries and regions. E.g.: If an organization has 5 activities out of which 2 activities are related to one particular country and the rest 3 activities are related to another country. In such cases, two activity XML files are created, one for each country/region.
If the publishing setting is set as unsegmented, all the published activities get updated into a single XML file. In unsegmented files, the number of activities an organization has does not make a difference. All the activities will be included in one single activity XML file.
To publish as segmented or unsegmented depends on the policies or requirements of the donor organisation and publishing organisation. It is however recommended to publish as 'unsegmented' unless specified by the donor.
Update on File Segmentation Option
Previously, AidStream had a segmented publishing option which is no longer available for new users. However, if any existing user had selected the Segmented option, they can switch to the Unsegmented option. But, if a user is using the Unsegmented option, they will not be able to switch to the Segmented option. Organizations who have their option set to Unsegmented will not be able to see the segmentation option under settings.
